Dance mediates the STEM sensemaking processes through group choreography.

iSTEP (interactive science through technology enhanced play) is a multi-year, multi-site Design Based Research project in which 6-7 year old students learned about particulate matter through embodied practices which tracked students’ speed and location and projected it onto a simulation using OpenPTrack technology. On the final day of the 7 day unit on particle behavior (states of matter) students used improvisational dance to make sense of the science content.

Presented at the International Society of Learning Sciences Conference, June 2021.

Dance provided a new way to make sense of the scientific content they learned during the iSTEP intervention.
